Did Covid-19 impact men and women differently?
The COVID-19 pandemic has had different consequences, as normal recessions tend to affect men's employment to a greater extent, unlike the coronavirus pandemic recession, which has affected women's employment. This article aims to analyze how school closures have impacted families, especially mothers, given the increased need for childcare, which impacts the promotion of gender equality in the labor market. This impact occurred through companies adopting flexible work schedules and many fathers assuming primary responsibility for childcare.
Can the combination of public policies for family farming affect the socioeconomic and political empowerment of women?
The movement toward gender equality has encouraged debates surrounding the role played by the State and citizens in the pursuit of an egalitarian society. Women are fundamental to food systems, being responsible for income management and ensuring adequate nutrition for all members of the household. However, gender gaps regarding access to income and ownership of productive resources in the rural sector are still enormous. In this context, Brandão et al. (2020) analyze how public policies aimed at family farmers affect the socioeconomic and political empowerment of women.
