So, what exactly is a podcast?
Podcasts are audio programs that can be listened to on streaming services or downloaded for offline listening. They can cover a wide variety of topics, such as politics, news, entertainment, sports, and even astrology.
Podcast streaming platforms have become very popular, and many programs can be listened to for free. Spotify was one of the platforms that recognized the potential of audio programs and now has a special section for podcasts.
The birth of the podcast
The format that has gained listeners worldwide originated in the United States in the early 2000s. The name comes from the combination of iPod (Apple's audio playback device) + broadcast (an English word meaning transmission).
If you're familiar with the term podcast today, it's thanks to Adam Curry, former MTV VJ, and Dave Winner, a software developer. In 2004 they created a program called iPodder which made it possible to automatically download broadcasts to iPods.
This was the push the innovation needed, because not long after, in 2005, Apple released iTunes 4.9, which came with its own support for podcasts. And it was in the same year that George W. Bush, then president of the United States, began making his weekly broadcasts available in podcast format.

You know those kinds of conversations that uplift you? The podcast created by Déia Freitas is full of real stories that were received via WhatsApp audio messages or Twitter mentions. With various segments, the podcast has amassed over 7,5 million plays.
Wide Panties
A self-described "quite honest and somewhat funny" podcast about the lives of three women: Camila Fremder, Helen Ramos, and Tati Bernardi. Together they talk about motherhood, sex, friendship, and family. The podcast is a Spotify original production.
Good morning, Obvious
