b) How did the topic come into your life?
TC: My interest in this topic stems from studies on ways to include minorities in decision-making spaces. In spaces of power, there will always be tension of interests; democracy presents itself as a system that allows for the inclusion of minority groups, precisely because it finds in dialogue the means to overcome the obstacles of conflict. For the achievement of rights and the construction of a more egalitarian culture, dialogue is fundamental. All stages of the process of choosing representatives involve moments of dialogue, even the selection of candidates (intra-party dialogue). Furthermore, in direct democracy, mainly represented by rights councils, dialogue is essential for the system to function.
c) Can there be democracy without dialogue? What is the relevance of this reflection, especially within the polarized context we find ourselves in?
I cannot identify democracy without dialogue. A dialogical system is the foundation of democracy, precisely because democracy is not the dictatorship of the majority. This reflection is important precisely for the realization of rights and the guarantee of existing rights, because it is after the exchange of information and the exchange of arguments that it is possible to reach the best answer.
