The daily life of a legal professional demands much reflection on issues pertaining to civil procedure. This is because, as we know, the legal process is the means by which we can obtain substantive rights.
Thus, when faced with a resisted claim, it is through legal proceedings that the party can request judicial protection to obtain satisfaction of their right.
There is no shortage of everyday problems:
- There are not enough daycare spots for all the children;
- The debtor did not pay the debt;
- The consumer was wrongly added to the negative credit list;
- The daughter is claiming child support from her father;
All these problems, at the end of the day, knock on the door of the Judiciary, and it is up to the Judge, in the exercise of cognitive activity, to declare the Law.
The exercise of cognitive activity is carried out, in most cases, through the process of knowledge acquisition, as provided for in the Code of Civil Procedure.
There we can find the rules for the initial petition, the summons, the conciliation or mediation hearing, the defense, among numerous other procedural acts that must be observed in light of due process of law.

Knowing procedural rules is as important as knowing substantive law. This is because, by using procedural techniques, it is possible to obtain satisfaction of rights more effectively and quickly, as exemplified by provisional remedies.
Hence the importance of legal professionals (whether judges, lawyers, prosecutors, or public defenders) dedicating themselves to the in-depth study of civil procedural law.
In the IDP Online's lato sensu specialization program , for example, you can immerse yourself in the practical challenges of the profession, with quality and theoretical depth that allow you to reflect deeply on procedural law.
The IDP specialization program in Civil Procedural Law includes 14 subjects focused on deepening the understanding of topics relevant to the discipline.
Right from the first classes of the course, the student will be exposed to two fundamental subjects for understanding the current state of Brazilian Civil Procedure, namely, "General Theory of Civil Procedure: Process and Constitution" and "Multi-Door System: conciliation, mediation and arbitration".
The first module, "General Theory of Civil Procedure: Process and Constitution," will teach students the contemporary foundations of the Brazilian procedural system, that is, the method provided for in the CPC (Code of Civil Procedure) for the jurisdictional resolution of conflicts, understanding the fundamental rules of the process and their practical applicability.
In the second subject, students will be able to develop their reasoning skills regarding the appropriate handling of conflicts, deepening their studies in the "Multi-Door System: conciliation, mediation, and arbitration."
In addition to the depth of the topics covered, in the IDP Online specialization program you can study from anywhere in Brazil, including exchanging ideas live with the most renowned professors in the country.
Throughout the course, new subjects will make you reflect on Civil Procedural Law in a technical and in-depth manner.
When studying, for example, "Theory of Cognition and Provisional Remedies," you will learn how a judge develops their cognitive activity. Furthermore, you will learn the necessary requirements to obtain an advance ruling on judicial protection.
In practice, this knowledge allows legal professionals to use techniques that anticipate the burden of time in a legal process, benefiting their clients.
In "Evidence Law," a subject that is rarely studied at the undergraduate level, students will learn how to develop evidentiary reasoning, gaining in-depth knowledge of the means of proof necessary for the judge to be convinced of the facts and rights presented by the party claiming the right in the legal process.
Among the subjects in the IDP Online specialization program, you will also learn about "Execution and Enforcement of Judgments," understanding the executive techniques provided for in the CPC (Brazilian Code of Civil Procedure) to obtain satisfaction of the debt.
You will also learn about the entire appeals system (both ordinary and extraordinary appeals), the entire Theory of Precedents, Collective Proceedings, and Autonomous Challenge Actions.
Regarding Special Procedures, you will learn about procedures that are common in everyday legal practice, such as actions for payment by consignment, actions to demand accounts, possessory actions, inventory and partition procedures, family law actions, among others provided for in the legislation.
Without a doubt, an excellent postgraduate program in Law.
Furthermore, studying at IDP allows you to participate in major Civil Procedure Law events in the country, such as the Permanent Forum of Civil Procedure Specialists.
The Permanent Forum of Civil Procedure Specialists (FPPC) was created when a group of young proceduralists met to debate the draft bill of the "new" Code of Civil Procedure, approved in 2015.
The group has grown, and currently the Forum facilitates numerous dialogues with the legal community regarding the application of the 2015 Code of Civil Procedure, promoting meetings with all those dedicated to the study of civil procedure. Statements on the application and interpretation of the Code of Civil Procedure are debated and approved in the Forums.
As is known, this is not case law, nor does the statement have binding force. However, it has a strong doctrinal component and, in practice, allows for guidance to the Courts regarding the best interpretation to be given to procedural legislation.
In these events, with the approval of the statements, the judge, the lawyer, the prosecutor, and the public defender can direct their actions in a more technical manner, always seeking to ensure the unity and effectiveness of the law.
In 2023, new statements were approved!
It was two days of intense debate. On the first day, at the IDP headquarters, the groups formulated and debated the statements to be presented at the plenary session.
On the second day, during the plenary session, the debates resumed, with procedural law experts from across the country gathering to seek unanimous approval of the statements.
These events allow us to understand how important study, debate, and dialogue are among professionals who aspire to be experts in Civil Procedural Law.
