Technology as an ally of education.

From blackboards to computer screens, education has undergone many changes to reach the format we know today. Technology has become present in various areas of our daily lives, and education is no exception, but is it truly an ally of education?

This issue was put to the test with the push to offer distance learning due to the coronavirus pandemic that swept the world. This ended up opening the eyes of many people to the fact that it is indeed possible to use technology as a powerful tool in the education of children, young people, and adults.

Focus on students' interests.

One trend that is already a reality in the school world is... student-centered educationIn this approach, the interests of each individual are taken into account during the learning process. This provides more autonomy for the student, as is the case, for example, in the PBL (Problem Based Learning) model.

The focus on the student ultimately leads to the use of technology during classes, as students are increasingly connected to the virtual world. This can serve as an incentive to increase focus on studies, since it's possible to bring the virtual environment into the classroom.

Games and studies

In recent years we have seen the emergence of gamification methods in classrooms, museums, libraries, and other spaces. All of this is designed to provide the best possible experience for students without them having to leave home, and in a fun way.

There is no doubt that games are already part of the routine of many students, and one platform that provides an environment very similar to some online games is... GatherThe site allows the creation of customized classrooms, which is great for simulating a structure similar to what the student experiences in face-to-face learning.

Furthermore, it's possible to interact with the created environment, taking your avatar for walks throughout the room. Another unique feature of the platform is that you can interact with another person nearby in the room and also place books, games, links, and other items around the environment for students to interact with.

Electronic readers

E-readers, on the other hand, can be great allies for students who love technology, as they literally put several books in the palm of a student's hand. Among the device's advantages are:

  • Saves physical space.
  • Digital books are cheaper or even free.
  • Dictionaries and translators are just a click away.
  • The device is super lightweight.

These benefits may not be so appealing to those who love the smell of a new book or to those who try to distance themselves from screens during the day.
