A world of videos in the palm of your hand.

Have you ever stopped to think about how many videos you watch per day? Perhaps this question has never crossed your mind, but simply opening your feed on any social network reveals a wide variety of video styles: from a Playstation 5 unboxing to a complete report on the US elections.

Perhaps in the early days of YouTube, we didn't expect to consume so many videos online, especially since television was the primary source of audiovisual information. With a new means of reporting comes the need for a new language, as videomakers remind us. Victor Parolin and Giovanni Sanfilippo in episode 10 of our podcast Toda Mídia.

New platform, new formats

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Time passes differently on the internet than on TV; news reports in daily newspapers average 3 minutes in length, as they need to fit into a programming schedule. With the consumption of content on the internet, this has changed somewhat; we now have access to longer videos, which has paved the way for other formats: short videos of up to one minute, stories, lettering, among others.

Capturing an audience's attention online requires more than just time. The formula "supporting images + voice-over + transition" isn't always the best option for an informative online video. That's why major newspapers have specialized in producing videos for the internet; one example is the Folha de S. Paulo YouTube channel, which has over 500 subscribers.

To inform and entertain.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Who hasn't ever taken some time to do nothing on the internet?! It's very common to open a website to read and/or watch light content that at first glance may seem like just entertainment. You don't have to go far to find stand-up comedy videos, astrology tips, music, movies, etc.

But even during moments of relaxation, information consumption can still happen! And many content creators have been using humorous and lighthearted language to deliver information to the public. A good example of this is the Pipocando channel, where Rolandinho and Bruno Bock produce videos that entertain and inform more than 4 million subscribers.
