Between July 26th and 27th, Monday and Tuesday, the “Personal Data Protection and Elections Seminar” will take place. Organized by the Data Protection and Elections Study Group 2021, the event will feature Colin Bennett, a privacy and surveillance policy expert and professor at the University of Victoria.

The 2021 Data Protection and Elections Study Group is composed of CEDIS/IDP, InternetLab, Data Privacy Brasil, and the Instituto Liberdade Digital. The seminar's objective is to foster and contribute assertively to discussions surrounding the challenges of regulating and applying the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law) in electoral processes, addressing fundamental issues regarding the guarantee of privacy and protection of personal data in democratic processes with actors from these fields, as well as civil society.

The event marks the launch of the "Recommendations Report for the current Brazilian framework," prepared by the Study Group on Data Protection and Elections, with recommendations for the application and adaptation of the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law) in electoral processes, seeking to fill gaps and promote greater convergence between the fields of data protection and electoral law.

The seminar will feature Laura Schertel, Director of CEDIS/IDP, and Professor Miriam Wimmer, Director of the National Data Protection Authority and leader of the Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Law Research Line at CEDIS/IDP. The professors will speak on "The regulation and application of the LGPD in elections" on July 27th at 5 PM.

CEDIS/IDP supports this event, along with:  InternetLab, Institute Digital Freedom and Data Privacy in Brazil

The broadcast will take place on the Zoom platform and will include simultaneous translation. Registration is free.
