Overview
Based on an interdisciplinary perspective of Economics, the Professional Doctorate in Economics at IDP (DECO) is organized to meet the demands of diverse profiles of public servants and other professionals who work directly or indirectly with public policies and government management.
DECO is a doctoral program (stricto sensu), approved and recommended by CAPES, that prioritizes the application of theoretical knowledge to solving problems related to the formulation, monitoring, and evaluation of public policies and government management.

AREAS OF INTEREST
Our methodology has two main characteristics:
Case Studies
One of DECO's main characteristics is its teaching methodology, which, in addition to a solid theoretical foundation, pays special attention to the analysis of case studies and practical applications of knowledge to public management.
In this way, the aim is to expose students, from the first semester onwards, to real-world examples of management techniques and innovative public policies implemented around the world.
Concentrated classes on Fridays and Saturdays
The courses are offered in a concentrated format at the following times:
Friday
- 14:00 pm - 17:40 pm
- 18:30 pm - 22:00 pm
Saturday
- 9:00 pm - 12:40 pm
- From 14 to 17
Following the regular schedule, the student is expected to complete the required coursework in the first year of the Master's program, with an average of 24 two-day class sessions.

In many schools, doctoral programs are highly theoretical and specialized.
At IDP, it's not just about what students know, but what they do with that knowledge. We structure our curriculum to offer in-depth technical knowledge in the most relevant areas from the perspective of what students will do after completing their PhD.
In the first semester, we offer students a solid foundation in subjects across three key areas of knowledge necessary for an excellent professional in the public sector: Public Administration, Law, and Economics.
In subsequent semesters, students have complete freedom to choose the subjects that interest them most, both from an academic and professional standpoint.

1st Semester
In the first semester, students take basic mandatory courses in the areas of Public Administration, Law, and Economics.
2st Semester
In the second semester, students take elective courses of their choice from the different areas of interest offered in the PhD program (public policies, government management, regulation, control and combating corruption, and judicial management). They also continue their studies in Research Methodology, which will culminate in the preparation of their Thesis Project.
3st Semester
In the third semester, students continue to take elective courses. Methodological studies and in-depth analysis are complemented by the course "Research Techniques". At the end of the 3rd semester, the student completes the course load and begins the mentoring activity, accompanied by one of the permanent PhD professors.
4st Semester
For students following the regular course flow, there are no more subjects to be taken. Thus, the 4th Semester is entirely dedicated to the preparation and qualification of the Doctoral Thesis.
5th and 6th Semesters
The last two semesters of the course are dedicated exclusively to completing the thesis research. Throughout the 5th semester, the student continues their research, aiming to defend their studies at the end of the 6th semester.
International Agreements
IDP establishes partnerships with foreign universities and institutes to give students the opportunity to experience periods of international study and research. The partnerships established by IDP allow entry into more than 15 educational institutions in approximately 6 different countries. Check out some of the partner institutions and programs offered!
