Founded in the first half of 2019, Peabiru aims to research the history of constitutionalism in Latin America from a critical and transdisciplinary perspective, emphasizing the interconnections between history and law from a renewed perspective on modern law.
The history of Latin America is a decisive element in the formation of the modern world, being directly linked to the development of key institutions and concepts of modernity, such as slavery, colonialism, imperialism, and republicanism. From new historiographical perspectives, such as Atlantic history and subaltern, post-colonial, and decolonial studies, Latin America has been elevated to the center of the historical stage. With this, the old attribution of "periphery of the world," a mere reproducer of alien ideas, has been called into question, denoting the inventive and creative role of the Latin American experience.
