About the study group

The Research Group “Democratization of Language and Access to Justice” proposes conducting academic research focused on language theories applied to the legal field.

In 2024/2025, three lines of research will be developed:

Line 1 – Access to justice through legal language (analysis of the readability index in judgments and sentences);

Line 2 – application of simple and visual language (legal design and visual law) in legal documents;

Line 3 – Simple language in the judiciary.

Group proposal

This group proposes to analyze the impact of the language used in the legal field on the population, from the perspective of access to justice. The concepts of language, legal language, legalese, plain language applied to law, and visual language will be analyzed as a foundation. The study is relevant because it investigates the role of language as a form of democratic social interaction and proposes a more efficient form of communication.
