About the study group

The LAPEC research group is an initiative of professors Renata Othon, Bárbara Vieira, and Vinicius Goulart from the School of Communication, Creativity, and Arts (ECOM/IDP). The meetings, held every two weeks, aim to promote debate and academic production focused on the symbolic and cultural nature of consumption practices linked to media communication.

Group proposal

The group focuses its research on the confluence of media communication, especially advertising and publicity, and consumption, considering it in its symbolic and cultural dimension. To this end, it seeks to analyze the practices and reflections of consumer culture from a glocal perspective – from macro to micro-contexts – as well as identify points of connection between the discursive processes of brands and digital phenomena.
