Program Impact

The Postgraduate Program in Public Administration (PPGAP) at IDP has achieved significant influence in training strategic personnel for Brazilian Public Administration, as demonstrated by the performance of its graduates in positions of high institutional responsibility. The program awarded master's degrees to 351 graduates up to 2024, 220 of whom graduated in the last four-year period (2021-2024), with broad regional representation and placement in bodies such as ministries, courts of accounts, parliaments, security forces, and regulatory agencies. This reach demonstrates not only the program's national scope but also its capacity to train leaders capable of directly impacting the formulation and execution of public policies. The recent launch of the Doctorate in Public Administration in 2024 reinforces this trajectory of consolidation, expanding IDP's educational and scientific scope in the public sector.

Another essential vector of impact lies in the curricular structure and the active teaching methodologies adopted, which strengthen interdisciplinarity, applied practice, and critical reflection. The PPGAP is structured around the concentration area "Contemporary Public Management" and the research line "Public Policies and Government Management," which offer a robust theoretical and methodological basis for qualified professional practice. The program's curriculum combines mandatory courses with a wide range of electives, organized into five thematic areas covering topics ranging from public policies and social development to innovation, technology, and regulation. This allows students to explore different approaches and build research trajectories connected to their institutional realities, fostering high-impact and socially relevant empirical analyses.

Finally, the program's impact is also evident in its scientific output, the research networks formed, and the quality of its faculty. All permanent faculty members hold doctoral degrees, most from leading institutions and possessing international experience, which raises the academic and technical standards of the program. The majority of professors lead externally funded applied research projects in partnership with public and private organizations, strengthening the link between academia and government practice. The program also invests in internationalization, curricular innovation, and continuing education, serving as a dynamic space for knowledge generation and solutions to complex public challenges. In this way, the IDP's PPGAP program consolidates itself as a national benchmark in training and applied research in public administration.

Funding received

The IDP's PPGAP demonstrated a significant capacity to mobilize external financial resources throughout the four-year period, revealing its institutional maturity and strategic integration into research and innovation networks. Between 2021 and 2024, the program received funding through applied research projects resulting from partnerships with public bodies and private institutions. These projects addressed fundamental themes such as digital transformation, public innovation, transparency, regulation, integrity, and government control. Furthermore, the program carried out 35 research projects with direct external funding, with 64% of the Permanent Faculty Nucleus (NDP) involved in studies supported by national and international funding agencies and universities. The themes were varied and relevant, including educational public policies, state capacities, the fight against COVID-19, and regional development.

The origin of the funding demonstrates the confidence of important institutions in the expertise of the PPGAP (Graduate Program in Public Administration). Partnerships with the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), the National Council of Justice (CNJ), the Ministry of Management and Innovation (MGI), Sebrae (Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service), the Brava Foundation, and several universities stand out, contributing to the development of organizational diagnoses, impact studies, and proposals for institutional improvement. The projects involved broad student participation, highlighting the articulation between teaching and research and strengthening the program's formative role. This scenario reveals not only the faculty's ability to lead initiatives with a strong practical component, but also the program's commitment to producing knowledge that generates public value. The diversity of funders reinforces the alignment of the PPGAP with the real demands of Brazilian public administration and its role as a bridge between academia and public management.

In addition to direct funding, the program benefited from a robust volume of indirect external funding, aimed at student participation in projects led by faculty. In total, there were 121 funding grants from 48 different institutions between 2021 and 2024. This data reinforces two central points: the consolidation of an internal collaborative research network between faculty and students, and the growing confidence of the external institutional ecosystem in the IDP program. All projects led by the Permanent Faculty Nucleus (NDP) involved funding for its students, demonstrating the centrality of training qualified human resources in the program's model. The distribution of this funding, duly recorded on the Sucupira Platform, serves as an indicator of institutional credibility and the impact that the PPGAP has been exerting, even in its still recent trajectory, in promoting applied research and high-level professional qualification in Public Administration.
