"Fake News", The new book by Judge Paulo Brasil Menezes (Court of Justice of Maranhão) was launched last Friday, November 6th, during the publisher's Black Friday sale. JuspodivmWith a preface by Francisco Balaguer Callejón, Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Granada, the work addresses disinformation in the global context, developing the study of fake news in three areas: modernity, methodology, and regulation.
Paulo Brasil Menezes reveals that as the internet has contributed to the democratization of cyberspace, information manipulation has been refined. "Knowledge of world events has increased, also attracting the spread of fake news through social networks, becoming a serious problem for contemporary democracies," he points out.
According to the author, such phenomena are paradoxes of modernity, requiring a systematic analysis of their impact in the 21st century, their structural performance, and, above all, their supervision in current times.
The magistrate emphasizes that, within the scope of the TJMA (Court of Justice of Maranhão), the topic is included in goal 4, among the 28 listed by the current administration, which instituted the campaign "Fake News Is Not Legal," to combat the sharing of false news in the workplace and in society in general.

Menezes is the presiding judge of the 1st Court of the District of Coelho Neto, Maranhão. He holds a Master's degree in Fundamental Rights from the Faculty of Law of the University of Granada (UGR/Spain) and in Constitutional Law from the Brazilian Institute of Public Law (IDP/DF). He has worked as a visiting researcher at the "Peter Häberle" Center for Constitutional Law Research at the University of Granada. He is a member of the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL-AIDC) and a full member of the Brazilian Association of Constitutional Procedural Law (ABDPC).
The judge is also the author of the book Judicial Dialogues between Constitutional Courts: the protection of fundamental rights in global constitutionalism, which will be released soon, later this month, by Ed. Lumen Juris.
