The excursion was led by Constitutional Procedure Professor José Carvalho and aimed to observe a Supreme Court judgment session.
According to Professor José Carvalho, this type of experience helps IDP students to have contact with what is studied in class. "The visit to the Supreme Federal Court is a unique opportunity to provide students with practical experience related to the theoretical knowledge acquired in the constitutional procedure course, thus deepening their legal experience and combining theory and practice," explains the professor.
During the tour, the students visited the STF (Supreme Federal Court) facilities, including the museum, the Noble Hall, the White Hall, and the Plenary Hall, receiving information from a guide from the Court's ceremonial staff. They also attended a trial session in which the STF Justices analyzed the constitutionality of the 2017 presidential Christmas pardon.
According to the professor, this type of class helps in the student's training and stimulates their interest in legal practices. "These institutional visits aim to complement learning and foster the student's interest in legal activities," emphasizes the IDP Professor.
IDP student Mara Rubia comments that this type of class is important for legal education. "It's important to have a 'preview' of how people behave in environments like this, what the order of things is, considering that I have colleagues who studied at other law universities in Brasília and said they never had this opportunity that I'm having at IDP," concludes the student.
IDP always seeks to offer students experiences in the legal field, such as court simulations, debates, and visits to the largest courts in Brazil, thus increasing the student's familiarity with the practice of law right from the beginning of their undergraduate studies.
