The course will discuss how this new technology works and how cryptocurrencies affect the market, as well as how they are taxed. The course is aimed at graduates, is free of charge, and will take place on June 10th and 11th at IDP.
According to Professor Jules Michelet, who holds a Master's degree in State Law from IDP, the topic is current and highly relevant. “Cryptocurrencies have become not only means of investment, but primarily innovative means of payment that overcome state barriers. It is a payment method whose operation does not depend on state intervention. It is an innovation not seen since the adoption of currency in commerce and has the potential to revolutionize the foundations of economics and politics,” explains the professor.
Jules Michelet adds to this by discussing the importance of legal professionals studying this topic. “For the law, cryptocurrencies can be an object or an instrument. An object insofar as all human conduct ends up being an object of law. Regulatory and fiscal institutions have adopted stances to regulate cryptocurrency operations, so it is important for professionals to identify the limits and possibilities in regulation in this field. As an instrument, cryptocurrencies, notably the blockchain mechanism, can prove to be tools of law in various aspects, such as contractual matters, overcoming traditional practices of the profession or giving it new meaning,” concludes the professional.
