The first course in the initiative focuses on journalism.
Executive Education is IDP's newest project. In this new endeavor, the institution will offer short-term training courses aimed at professionals, covering specific and current topics. The first course will be "Law for Journalists," with a workload of 32 hours, and is scheduled to begin on March 25th.
The course for journalists aims to equip communication professionals with knowledge of the procedures, language, and structure of the legal world, to assist them in the understanding, analysis, and independent critique of this field.
According to the course coordinators and IDP professors, Eric Hadmann Jasper and Henrique Arake, the course aims to provide training for all professionals working in media. "The journalist's role is to inform society, and to that end, we want to empower them by familiarizing them with the terms, rites, and procedures used in the legal world, enabling them to translate them effectively for the public," the professors explain.
One of the topics that will be addressed is "Limits of press freedom and accountability," which will discuss the limits of the journalistic profession, addressing the right to image and privacy, and the possible forms of accountability, both individual and for media outlets, whether in the civil or criminal sphere.
In addition to these topics, the course will also cover "Introduction to the Brazilian legal system and state," "Legal aspects of the journalism profession," "Themes in Law and Politics," and will also include a meeting with professionals specializing in judicial coverage.
