IDP and Cedis – Center for Law, Internet and Society – are preparing the workshop “General Data Protection Law and MP 869” on Friday, February 22nd. The workshop aims to present an analysis of the new personal data protection legislation (LGPD), assisting participants, whether entrepreneurs, interested parties, jurists, or managers working in technology areas, in how to adapt to the new legislation.
Among the confirmed speakers are experts who work directly in the field, such as Miriam Wimmer, PhD in Communication and Culture Policies; Fabrício da Mota Alves, lawyer; Danilo Doneda, PhD in Civil Law and Professor at IDP; and Laura Schertel, Professor at IDP and PhD in Private Law.
According to Laura Schertel, one of the workshop coordinators and a professor at IDP, the event is of great importance to those interested in and working in the field. “The idea of the workshop is to discuss the fundamentals of data protection, as well as the architecture of the General Data Protection Law. With this, participants will be able to not only reflect on the central elements of this topic, but also apply them in their respective entities or companies to assist in the processes of adapting to the law,” explains the professor.
Danilo Doneda, who also coordinates the event, states that the workshop “will also analyze the changes brought about by the Provisional Measure that created the Data Protection Authority and made several modifications to the law, as well as the amendments that were presented to modify it. The LGPD is still an open process and the implications of its modifications must be studied for a greater understanding of the Brazilian data protection model,” concludes the Doctor.
The event will also discuss various aspects of the law, such as its foundations and scope of application, principles and rights of the data subject, responsibility of agents, international aspects, security and privacy by design, the sanctioning system, and the National Data Protection Authority. It will also address how to interpret the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law) in conjunction with relevant legislation, such as the Marco Civil da Internet (Brazilian Internet Bill of Rights), the Consumer Protection Code, and the Positive Credit Registry Law.
