The course will cover topics ranging from juristocracy to the profile of the Brazilian public defender's office. The course is aimed at graduates, is free of charge, and will take place on June 25th and 26th at the IDP.
According to Professor Ramiro Sant'Ana, PhD and Public Defender of the Federal District, the event is relevant because it addresses current issues. “Increasingly, social policies present difficulties for citizens in accessing them across various areas, such as social security, social assistance, housing, education, and transportation. Of all the systems organized to offer social rights, the Unified Health System (SUS) is the most well-developed in its federative cooperation, guidelines, and objectives. Therefore, studying the judicialization of health is studying the interface between law and social policy, which is most important today, both because health policy is the most structured and organized at the federative level, and also because it is the branch of judicialization that has grown the most,” explains the Professor.
The growth of the field is one of the factors contributing to the importance of the topic, explains the professor. “The growth of litigation is exponential, having already reached more than 1 million lawsuits in the past, and perhaps this year, or next year, it will reach 2 million in progress throughout Brazil. So, studying the judicialization of healthcare is studying an area of law that is experiencing rapid growth, and also a form of litigation that will help us understand other areas, such as education and social assistance,” concludes the Public Defender.
