IDP will welcome Professor Petar Bojanic in April 2025.

Between April 14th and 29th, IDP will host Professor Petar Bojanic for a series of academic activities promoted by the Celso de Mello Chair.

Professor Bojanic studied philosophy at the University of Belgrade and at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, under the supervision of Miladin Životić and Jacques Derrida. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Paris X (Nanterre), with a thesis entitled “La guerre (dernière) et l'institution de la philosophie” [(Last) War and the Institution of Philosophy], defended before a panel composed of Étienne Balibar, Jean-Luc Nancy, Jacques Derrida, and Gérard Bensussan. He has been a visiting professor at several universities around the world, including Cornell, Aberdeen, Yekaterinburg, London, and Rome, among others. Currently, he is a visiting professor in Turin and Rijeka.

At IDP, the professor will teach the course "Post-Structuralism and Critical Theory of Law," together with Professor João Paulo Bachur, and Professors Carolina Costa Ferreira and Eduarda Gindri. In addition, IDP will host a public event to discuss Bojanic's book, "Violence and Messianism," which will take place on April 23rd at 19 PM.

In this work, the author reflects on the conflicts of the interwar period of the last century from the perspective of catastrophe theory, addressing the relationship between violence and the institutionalization of peace and justice. He questions whether violent actions can be employed to hasten the arrival of the Messiah, such as terrorist violence. This is a fundamental contribution to the discussion on terrorism and religion and essential reading for anyone seeking to broaden their understanding of terrorism and the ethics of war, philosophy, and religious studies.
