The tenure of Minister Teori Albino Zavascki (1948-2017) in the judiciary constitutes one of the most beautiful chapters in national jurisprudence. His outstanding performance in three different courts over almost 28 years represents an invaluable contribution to Brazilian law, in precedents that shed light on important legal institutions.
This work aims to analyze the judgments in which the most notable opinions delivered by Minister Teori Zavascki in the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region, the Superior Court of Justice, and the highest Brazilian court, the Supreme Federal Court, are revealed.
The ideas and legal reasoning of Minister Teori Zavascki are discussed by former colleagues in the judiciary, judges, public and private lawyers, and long-time collaborators who closely followed his memorable work for years.
Beyond being a tribute to the great jurist, this work aims to reclaim his legacy, presenting to current and future generations the sophisticated thought of a magistrate who made history in the country. The book was conceived and coordinated by Dr. Claudio Xavier Seefelder Filho and Daniel Coussirat de Azevedo. It involved the participation of Justices from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and the Supreme Federal Court (STF) (Justices Luiz Fux, Luis Roberto Barroso, Eliana Calmon Alves, Ellen Gracie Northfleet, Gilmar Ferreira Mendes, Gilson Dipp, Grace Mendonça, José de Castro Meira, and Nelson Azevedo Jobim). The book launch will take place at the STF on a date to be determined.
