[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This Thursday, December 2nd, 2021, IDP professors Mauro César Santiago Chaves and Tiago Sousa Pereira, members of the Research Group on Economic Regulation and Regulatory Law (REDI/IDP) were awarded the Mauá Medal of Merit, according to Decree of December 1, 2021, published in the Official Gazette:
A Medal of Merit Mauá It is an award created to honor all those who have made a decisive contribution to the development and progress of the Transportation Sector. The medal was created by Decree No. 55.475, of January 7, 1965, and reinstated by Decree No. 3.047, of May 6, 1999.
The Medal is a tribute to the patron of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Viscount of Mauá, who was a 19th-century Brazilian industrialist and politician who undertook the construction of the country's first paved highway. He also built the Mauá Railway, the first Brazilian railway, in Rio de Janeiro. He was also responsible for founding the Amazon Steam Navigation Company.
