Post-Doctoral Fellow in Criminal Law and IDP Professor André Callegari will launch his newest book, "Plea Bargains: Practical and Theoretical Lessons," where the lawyer discusses the plea bargain process and Law 12.850, approved in 2013. The event will take place this Wednesday, the 27th of this month, at IDP, and admission is free.
According to the Post-Doctoral researcher, the work is important for those interested and legal professionals who want to know more about plea bargains. "The work is important because it gives a dimension of how the Supreme Federal Court has judged plea bargain cases. It is also important for academic reflections on the subject since it is a recent law," comments the lawyer.
The legal expert explains that the topic, being recent and highly prominent, caught his attention: "The topic is intriguing in itself, with positions in favor of collaboration and many detractors. After verifying that the law was new and that the Supreme Court's positions were not yet consolidated, I came to this topic," says the specialist.
The professor adds that teaching at IDP helped in the creation of the work: “The students bring up many interesting questions that make us reflect on the topics we write about.
