This Friday, March 29th, IDP will hold the second day of the IDP Experience. This event will discuss four current topics in criminal law: the prison system, over-incarceration, drugs, and gun ownership. As with the first IDP Experience, the event will begin at 15 PM and end at 18 PM, and is free of charge.
Within the event, high school students will have contact with professionals who deal directly with the penal system, such as the Vice-President of the OAB-DF (Brazilian Bar Association - Federal District), Master of Law and Lawyer, Cristiane Damasceno, the Master of Criminal Law and Lawyer, Paulo Emílio Catta Preta, the Doctor of Criminal Law and Advisor to the National Council of Criminal and Penitentiary Policy of the Ministry of Justice, Maria Gabriela Peixoto, and the Public Defender of the Federal District, Reinaldo Rosseno.
According to Daniel Prates, coordinator of the IDP Experience project, the second day aims to bring students closer to issues that directly influence our daily lives.In our second IDP Experience activity – Hot Topics: Criminal Law and Criminal Policy – we hope that students will learn about the reality of topics that, at times, may seem distant, but which certainly influence our lives. The prison system, drug policy, and gun control regulations are issues that are much closer to people than we might imagine, and by understanding them better, students will be better prepared to understand our society and the consequences of each choice we make,” explains the professional.
